Key Takeaway
- Part of every staking APR comes from new coins the network creates. That new supply dilutes all holders.
- Your real gain is roughly the APR minus the coin's inflation rate.
- At 8% APR and 3.6% inflation, SOL stakers keep a real gain of about 4.2%.
What Is Real Staking Yield?
Real staking yield is your staking APR after subtracting the coin's supply inflation. It shows how much your share of the total supply actually grows. A high APR on a coin with high inflation can leave you with a small real gain.
The formula is: real yield = (1 + APR) ÷ (1 + inflation) − 1.
A quick estimate is APR minus inflation. The exact formula gives a slightly lower number.
Why Staking Rewards Come With Dilution
Many proof-of-stake networks pay stakers by creating new coins. Everyone's coins are worth a smaller slice of a bigger supply. Stakers receive the new coins, so they keep up. Holders who do not stake fall behind.
Example: you hold 100 SOL and the total supply grows 3.6% in a year.
- If you stake at 8% APR: you end with 108SOL. Your share of the supply grows by about 4.2%.
- If you do not stake: you still have 100 SOL. Your share of the supply shrinks by about 3.6%.
This is why some holders see staking less as extra income and more as protection against dilution.

Real Yield on SOL Staking
As of October 16, 2026, Solana's annual inflation rate is about 3.6%. It falls by 15% each year until it reaches a floor of 1.5%. About 69% of all SOL is staked.
With WEEX flexible SOL staking at 8% APR:
- Real yield: 1.08 ÷ 1.036 − 1 ≈ 4.25%
- Non-staker dilution: about −3.6% a year
Solana also burns half of every transaction fee. This offsets a small part of new supply.
Real Yield on ETH Staking
Ethereum's inflation is much lower than Solana's. As of October 5, 2026, the network issued about 2,600 new ETH a day, or about 0.8% of supply a year. Fee burning brought net supply growth down to roughly 0.2% to 0.8% a year since April 2024.
With WEEX flexible ETH staking at 2% APR :
- Real yield using issuance (0.8%): about 1.2%
- Real yield using low net growth (0.2%): about 1.8%
So most of an ETH staking APR is real gain in supply terms. ETH staking on WEEX starts from 0.01 ETH.
What Real Yield Still Does Not Tell You
Real yield measures your share of supply, not your profit in dollars. Price is set by the market, not by supply alone. A coin with low inflation can still fall sharply.
Keep three points in mind:
- Price risk matters most. A 10% price drop outweighs a year of real yield on SOL or ETH.
- Inflation changes. Solana's rate falls each year. Ethereum's net rate depends on network activity.
- APRs change. WEEX Staking rates are estimates and can be adjusted.
For stablecoins like USDT, there is no token inflation to subtract. The inflation that matters is the dollar's. As of October 16, 2026, WEEX Auto Earn pays 10% APR on the first 200 USDT and 3.5% APR up to 500,000 USDT.

FAQ
- What is the real yield on SOL staking?
At 8% APR and about 3.6% inflation, SOL staking has a real yield of about 4.2% in supply terms.
- Do I lose anything by not staking?
On inflationary coins, yes. If you do not stake, your share of the total supply shrinks as new coins are created.
- Does real yield protect against price drops?
No. Real yield only measures your share of supply. Price moves can outweigh it.
