3 Cyber Attacks on Cryptocurrency Market, $35 Million Loss in 24 Hours
In the past 24 hours, the cryptocurrency market faced three cyber attacks that resulted in total losses exceeding $35 million. The largest attack was on AFX Trade, where the attacker withdrew approximately $24.15 million in USDC from this protocol based on Arbitrum and transferred it to the Ethereum network, subsequently converting it to over 12,000 ETH. The Arbitrum team emphasized that the affected bridge was independently managed by AFX Trade and had no connection to the official bridges of this network. Less than an hour later, the BSquaredNetwork was targeted, and attackers withdrew around 8.59 million B2 tokens worth approximately $3.86 million from this protocol, quickly exchanging them for over 5,000 WBNB and converting them to 1,128 ETH. Ultimately, these assets were transferred to another network, and the large-scale sale of B2 tokens created significant selling pressure in the market, causing the price of this cryptocurrency to drop by more than 15%. In the third attack, the Verus cross-chain bridge lost about $7.55 million. This protocol had also fallen victim to an $11.58 million attack two months ago. Initial investigations suggest that a similar contract and type of vulnerability were likely exploited in both incidents. The continuation of such attacks could undermine market confidence and drain liquidity from high-risk projects.
