Anthropic Seeks Rehearing of Pentagon Supply Chain Risk Appeal
On October 13, Anthropic submitted a request to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, seeking a rehearing of its appeal regarding the Pentagon's designation of "supply chain risk." In March of this year, the U.S. Department of Defense listed Anthropic as a supply chain risk, prohibiting defense contractors from using its technology in collaboration with the Department of Defense. In September, the court's panel upheld this designation by a vote of 2 to 1. Anthropic's lawyers stated that the company was blacklisted for refusing to allow its models to be used for large-scale surveillance of U.S. citizens or lethal autonomous weapons, and argued that the court ignored direct evidence that this designation was retaliation for Anthropic's public stance on AI safety.
