Bermuda to adopt WalletConnect for islandwide crypto payments
The government of Bermuda plans to adopt WalletConnect (WCT) to expand cryptocurrency payments across the island. Local ticketing platform Premier Tickets (PTIX) will be the first to implement the system, starting to accept crypto payments in the second quarter of 2027. The Bermuda government expects this rollout to reduce payment fee burdens for local merchants, as current card payment fees range from 3% to 5% per transaction, with effective processing costs reaching 10% in some industries. Fees for the new payment system have not been disclosed. In January, the Bermuda government announced plans to introduce blockchain payments across the national economy with support from Circle and Coinbase.
