Bill Gates: AI Abuse in the Coming Year May Lead to More Cyberattacks
In an interview on October 11, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates stated that the risks associated with AI may be most apparent in the realm of cyberattacks over the next year. Malicious actors could exploit models stripped of security protections, leading to numerous negative unintended consequences. He pointed out that the primary danger currently is the misuse of AI, rather than AI itself going out of control. Gates believes that the risks of AI are greater than those posed by cars, airplanes, and pharmaceuticals, urging the establishment of independent safety regulations similar to those in these fields, rather than relying solely on corporate self-regulation. At the same time, he considers claims about the extinction risk faced by humanity to be exaggerated.
