BlackRock CIO supports Fed's decision to hold interest rates steady
Rick Rieder, chief investment officer for global fixed income at BlackRock, stated that the U.S. Federal Reserve made the correct choice in maintaining its benchmark interest rate. He noted that U.S. inflation is still high, but price pressures in sectors like energy, insurance, healthcare, and education may not significantly decrease even with a 0.25 percentage point rate increase. Rieder highlighted that while the U.S. economy shows solid overall growth, the impact of tighter monetary policy is becoming evident in some interest-rate-sensitive sectors. He also mentioned that the recent increase in U.S. Treasury yields should be considered, as financial conditions have already tightened. Rieder emphasized that the Fed should remain open to further rate hikes if inflation pressures escalate, given that inflation is above the central bank's 2% target.
