Dragonfly Partner Questions Bunker Model, Claims Address Migration Cannot Solve AI Hacking Risks
Dragonfly Managing Partner Haseeb Qureshi pointed out that the "bunker model" proposed by Ethereum researcher Justin Drake to address the risk of AI hacking encrypted signatures is a form of "cryptographic doomsdayism". He believes that migrating tokens to a new address is not a true solution. Qureshi stated that the "bunker model" can only protect assets that have not been transferred out from the new address; if tokens in other addresses are attacked and sold off in large quantities, those assets may still lose value. He suggested adopting a "cryptographic recovery model" that utilizes a hash-based backup signature scheme, allowing users to bind a recovery mechanism in advance so that validators can assist in recovering assets after the encrypted signature is compromised. Previously, Justin Drake warned that as AI's mathematical capabilities rapidly improve, the ECDSA signature algorithm used to protect crypto wallets may be cracked in "months rather than years", advising users to gradually migrate funds to new wallets that do not expose public keys. According to Glassnode data, approximately 6.26 million BTC are currently located in addresses that pose potential risks.
