Ethereum Schedules Glamsterdam Upgrade for October 26 on Hoodi Test Network
Ethereum will activate the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi test network at 17:42:48 UTC on October 26. The gas limit for the testnet will increase to 200 million at that time, but no mainnet activation date has been announced. The upgrade will occur at Hoodi epoch 132,352, slot 4,235,264, following its October 6 activation on Sepolia. Glamsterdam introduces two key changes: enshrined proposer-builder separation (ePBS) integrates the relationship between block proposers and builders into Ethereum's protocol, while block-level access lists facilitate parallel processing and validation of block components. Additionally, the upgrade modifies gas accounting, impacting application developers reliant on fixed gas cost assumptions. Validators and node operators on Hoodi must ensure compatible execution and consensus clients prior to activation. The 200-million gas limit represents an engineering milestone, not an immediate increase in mainnet capacity. The Hoodi test will assess the planned changes under real operating conditions, with no immediate action required from mainnet users.
