Injective Expands AI Payment Experiment by Joining X402 Foundation
Injective (INJ) has joined the X402 Foundation to participate in the development of a payment standard for AI agents and API request units. The X402 Foundation consists of 40 member companies, and Injective announced its membership on its official blog. X402 is an open standard that utilizes the HTTP '402 Payment Required' status code, allowing clients to pay costs through on-chain transactions while services provide API, data, and web resources. Injective explained that X402 operates on EVM, with a single block settlement time of approximately 650 milliseconds. This membership comes in response to the need for AI agent payments, representing a different approach compared to traditional account creation and card information input methods. X402 aims to simplify the process by including payment requests and proof of payment within HTTP requests and responses. Premier members such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google, and Visa are also participating. Cloudflare has announced an X402-based monetization gateway, and CoinGecko operates an X402-supported cryptocurrency data API page. There is also a possibility that stablecoin payments could be linked to AI service billing methods. However, BlockSec pointed out that a significant portion of X402 transactions may be for testing or self-trading, and whether it establishes itself as a commercial payment infrastructure depends on the sources of repeated payments and independent demand.
