JAN3 CEO advocates for 'Bitcoin Signing Device' terminology
JAN3 CEO Samson Mow stated that the term 'Bitcoin Signing Device' is more appropriate than 'Bitcoin hardware wallet.' He emphasized that Bitcoin is not stored on the device but exists on the blockchain, with the device using keys generated from a seed to sign transactions. Mow highlighted that the device should not be viewed as a long-term storage solution, stressing the importance of securely backing up the seed. He acknowledged past sales declines when Trezor and others attempted a similar name change in 2016 but believes the industry and users now have a better understanding, suggesting that the idea should be revisited. Mow noted that while devices vary in key generation and storage methods, their primary function remains signing.
