Next FOMC Meeting 2026: October 28 Fed Decision Time & Schedule

By: WEEX|10/16/2026 07:30:00

TL;DR

  • Next FOMC Meeting: October 27–28, 2026, with the Fed rate decision scheduled for October 28 at 2:00 PM ET (October 29, 02:00 UTC+8).
  • 2026 FOMC Schedule: Eight meetings in total, with two remaining in October and December. The next Fed dot plot is expected in December.
  • Fed Rate Outlook: Following September's 25 bps hike, inflation data and Fed policy signals remain key drivers of market expectations.
  • Bitcoin & Crypto Impact: Bitcoin doesn't always fall when rates rise. Market expectations, inflation surprises, and the Fed's tone can matter more than the decision itself.

The next FOMC meeting runs October 27–28, 2026, and the rate decision is due at 2:00 p.m. ET on October 28. In UTC+8 that is 02:00 on October 29. After that, only the December 8–9 meeting remains this year. The Fed has changed rates once in 2026, a 25 bp hike in September that took the target range to 3.75%–4.00%. Around Fed days this year, Bitcoin moved more on inflation data and on the tone of the policy signal than on the rate decision itself.

When Is the Next FOMC Meeting? October 27–28, 2026

The next FOMC meeting is a two-day session on October 27–28, 2026. The policy statement comes out at 2:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 28, and the chair's press conference starts at 2:30 p.m. ET, according to the Federal Reserve's meeting calendar (page last updated October 7, 2026).
October is not a projections meeting. The Fed's calendar marks only the March, June, September and December meetings with a Summary of Economic Projections, so there will be no new dot plot on October 28. The statement and the press conference will carry the whole signal. The next dot plot arrives with the December 9 decision.
Public commentary from officials is also about to stop. Under the Fed's blackout rule, policymakers go quiet from the second Saturday before a meeting, which falls on October 17 this time.

FOMC Meeting Schedule 2026: All 8 Fed Meeting Dates

The Fed scheduled eight meetings in 2026. Six are done and two remain. The Fed's target rate history lists a single change this year: a 25 bp increase, effective September 17.
MeetingDot plot (SEP)DecisionTarget range after
January 27–28NoHold3.50%–3.75%
March 17–18YesHold3.50%–3.75%
April 28–29NoHold3.50%–3.75%
June 16–17YesHold3.50%–3.75%
July 28–29NoHold3.50%–3.75%
September 15–16Yes+25 bp3.75%–4.00%
October 27–28NoDue October 28—
December 8–9YesDue December 9—
The range had been 3.50%–3.75% since the Fed's December 2025 cut. The same rate table shows that the last increase before this one took effect in July 2023. The September hike passed unanimously, per the Fed's September 16 policy statement.

What Time Is the Next Fed Rate Decision? ET, UTC & Asia

The October 28 statement lands at 18:00 UTC, which is 02:00 on October 29 in UTC+8 cities such as Singapore and Hong Kong. The December 9 statement comes one hour later in Asian time, at 03:00 UTC+8 on December 10, because Eastern Time leaves daylight saving on November 1.
LocationOctober 28 statementDecember 9 statement
Eastern TimeOct 28, 14:00Dec 9, 14:00
UTCOct 28, 18:00Dec 9, 19:00
LondonOct 28, 18:00Dec 9, 19:00
UTC+8 (Singapore, Hong Kong, Manila)Oct 29, 02:00Dec 10, 03:00
UTC+9 (Tokyo, Seoul)Oct 29, 03:00Dec 10, 04:00
SydneyOct 29, 05:00Dec 10, 06:00
Add 30 minutes to any of these times for the start of the press conference.
London readers get an odd one in October. London's clocks go back on October 25, three days before the decision, while Eastern Time keeps daylight saving until November 1. For that one week the gap between the two cities shrinks to four hours, so the October statement arrives at 18:00 London time rather than the usual 19:00.

Next Fed Announcement Date & Time

The next FOMC meeting opens on October 27. Every scheduled meeting runs two days, and nothing is published on day one. The decision always comes on day two, so the dates that matter this quarter are October 28 and December 9.
On decision day the sequence is fixed. The statement comes out at 2:00 p.m. ET and the press conference begins at 2:30 p.m. ET. The Fed's calendar notes that minutes follow three weeks after each decision, which puts the October minutes on November 18 and the December minutes on December 30, both at 2:00 p.m. ET. In UTC+8, both sets of minutes arrive at 03:00 the following morning.
If you trade from Asia, the decision and the first half of the press conference both land before most of the region wakes up. A calendar alert set to the UTC+8 times above is simpler than converting on the night.

How Do Fed Rate Hikes Affect Bitcoin Prices?

No. Many people believe a Fed hike is an automatic sell signal for Bitcoin, but the data shows that 2026's only hike drew a calmer Bitcoin reaction than June's hold did.
Decision dayFed actionBitcoin reaction reported
June 17Hold, with hawkish projectionsDown about 2.2% over 24 hours, near $64,150 (The Block, June 17, 2026)
July 29Hold, 9–3 vote with three dissents favoring a hikeLittle changed near $64,000 (ForkLog, July 29, 2026)
September 16+25 bp hikeUp 1.35% over 24 hours, near $76,663 (Cointelegraph, September 17, 2026)
The September hike had been priced in well ahead of the meeting. The week before, CME FedWatch put the odds of a 25 bp move at 85.8% (TheStreet, September 11, 2026). From about $75,600 on decision day, Bitcoin rose roughly 13% to around $85,500 by October 2 (Tokenpost, October 2, 2026).
The sharpest move of the season came on a day with no Fed meeting at all. After the September CPI release on October 14, Bitcoin fell about 3% in 24 hours to near $81,184 (CoinGecko, October 15, 2026), and long positions worth about $860 million were liquidated across the market (Coinglass data, October 15, 2026).
Bottom line: Bitcoin reacted to surprises. An expected hike moved it less than a hold that came with hawkish projections, and an inflation print moved it more than either.

October 2026 Fed Rate Decision: Will Bitcoin Rise or Fall?

Before the CPI release, futures priced roughly a one-in-five chance of an October hike, and the hotter September inflation print has reopened that question. As of October 9, CME FedWatch implied odds of about 16%–19% for a 25 bp move in October (CME FedWatch data reported by Coin Bureau, October 9, 2026). Right after the CPI release, those odds briefly reached about 53% before falling back below 30% as Treasuries rallied (CME Group FedWatch update). A hot September producer price report the next morning pushed them up again. Headline PPI rose 1.3% for the month against a 0.6% forecast, and the October hike probability climbed to 33.8% from 29.3% before the data (CME FedWatch via InvestmentNews, October 15, 2026).
The inflation data explains the shift. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on October 14 that headline CPI rose 3.7% in the 12 months to September, up from 3.4% in August. Core CPI rose 2.6%, up from 2.4%, and gained 0.3% for the month. Before the release, Citi argued that a monthly core reading of 0.2% or lower would make the clearest case for holding in October (Citi, via Investing.com). The print missed that threshold.
What matters for crypto depends on which way the Fed goes, and the two outcomes carry different signals:
  • A hold. With no dot plot in October, markets will read the statement wording and the press conference for hints about December. June showed that a hold can still weigh on Bitcoin when the accompanying message turns hawkish.
  • A hike. This would be a second straight increase. In September's projections, 16 of 18 officials already expected at least one more hike before year-end (Cointelegraph, September 17, 2026), so the larger variable is whether the Fed signals further moves after October.
The CME FedWatch tool updates these odds throughout the day and is the quickest way to see how much of either outcome is priced in before October 28.
