Russia Imports 30,000 Tons of Fuel from South Korea
Traders have sent nearly 30,000 tons of refined fuel from South Korea to Russia. The loading took place at the end of July at the Ulsan container port. At least two small tankers were used for transportation, one of which has already arrived at a Russian port and is awaiting unloading. The shipment includes diesel and aviation fuel. The increase in demand for imports is driven by regular strikes by Ukrainian forces on Russian energy infrastructure, leading to shortages and an extension of the ban on gasoline and diesel exports from Russia. Typically, Russia is a major exporter of diesel fuel; however, damage to refineries is forcing the country to seek alternative supply sources. There was a previous attempt to deliver 200,000 barrels of Japanese aviation fuel via South Korea, but the agreement fell through due to strict export restrictions from Tokyo. The South Korean Ministry of Trade has not commented on the current shipment, and the Russian side is ignoring media inquiries.
