The Number of Companies Opposing Tokenization Reaches 26
The number of major companies in the U.S. opposing the tokenization of their stocks has risen to 26. Recently, IBM, Oracle, Intel, and IonQ filed objections to being tokenized on the New York Stock Exchange. It is noteworthy that these companies did not provide reasons in their official objection notifications. This raises uncertainty about whether these giant firms are truly against tokenization or just opposed to the OKX-ICE platform. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) launched a new system in September under the name 'Innovation Exemption', allowing crypto companies to trade tokenized U.S. stocks. However, these companies were granted the right to object within 30 days. Among the companies filing objections are global giants like Microsoft, Alphabet, Goldman Sachs, Coreweave, Wells Fargo, and Moderna. The main reasons for their objections include expected price discrepancies in different markets and legal uncertainties. For example, while Microsoft shares may close at $400 on Nasdaq, the tokenized version could drop to $390. This situation could lead to liquidity shifting towards the tokenized side, which is why companies and traditional finance are opposing it.
