UK and US Coordinate AI Model Testing Permissions
UK AI Minister Kanishka Narayan announced that the UK is working closely with the US government to ensure that the UK AI Safety Institute can gain testing permissions before the release of the most powerful AI models. He stated that the UK aims to become one of the countries least susceptible to AI attacks. Last month, media reports indicated that the Trump administration had requested OpenAI and Anthropic to delay providing AI models to the UK until US authorities deemed these models safe. Trump has been tightening access to Silicon Valley AI models globally. Earlier this year, the US government prohibited Anthropic from releasing its latest model to foreign nationals. Reports have previously indicated that Anthropic did not provide the UK AI Safety Institute with the latest version of its powerful Mythos model and did not offer an explanation.
