US Bans Import of Chinese Robots and Inverters
The United States has banned the import of new models of Chinese humanoid and quadruped robots, as well as connected inverters used in power grids and data centers. The restrictions are implemented to protect critical infrastructure and supply chains in the field of artificial intelligence from cyberattacks and data leaks. The measures were announced by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and apply to models that have not yet been released to the market. The regulator points to risks associated with vulnerabilities in connected devices, including data collection and remote interference. The ban affects rapidly growing sectors such as the industrial use of humanoid robots and inverters for renewable energy. The Chinese company Unitree, which manufactures humanoid robots, may incur significant losses as it holds about 20% of the global market. Unitree has also been added to the Pentagon's list of companies linked to the Chinese military. UBTech Robotics has signed a supply agreement for humanoid robots for Airbus, which is part of its strategy to expand into international markets.
