WEEX Exclusive:PPI Slowdown Further Strengthens No-Hike Expectations, S&P 500 Hits Fresh High, Storage Sector Surges | WEEX TradFi Daily Brief (Aug. 14, 2026)
1 Stock Highlights
1)July PPI Comes in Below Expectations and Slows Notably; Odds of September Hold Rise to Around 60%
Data released on Aug. 13 showed July PPI rising less than expected on a year-over-year basis and decelerating clearly, with core PPI also easing. Following the earlier CPI print, this further confirmed moderating price pressures, dampening rate-hike expectations and lifting risk sentiment. The S&P 500 closed at a record high.

2)Storage Sector Leads Gains; SanDisk Jumps 12.77%
SanDisk’s long-term financial guidance released at its Investor Day, projecting continued strong revenue growth and high gross margins for fiscal 2028 to 2030, fueled a sharp rally in the stock and lifted the broader storage group.

3)S&P 500 Closes at Record High as Tech Heavyweights Broadly Advance
The S&P 500 finished at a new all-time high, with the Nasdaq also stronger. Most of the Magnificent Seven rose, led by Tesla and Meta, while Apple, Microsoft, and NVIDIA posted modest gains. The combination of AI capital-expenditure momentum and cooling inflation pushed the broader market through prior highs.

4)Optical Communications Stocks Pull Back
Despite earlier better-than-expected results and guidance from some optical names, near-term profit-taking pressure emerged. Coherent, Lumentum, and Corning all declined notably. The sector is consolidating after its prior run higher as the market awaits further order-delivery confirmation.

2 U.S. Data Preview
July Retail Sales (Pre-Market, Aug. 14)
Strong growth in July retail sales would ease recession concerns and could support the S&P 500 and small-caps. A significant miss, however, might intensify hard-landing fears, pressure technology shares, and lift the volatility index (UVXY). Separately, if the University of Michigan consumer sentiment reading stabilizes while inflation expectations decline, it would reinforce the case for a Federal Reserve rate cut in September and support Treasuries and the broader market. Conversely, a rebound in inflation expectations alongside weaker confidence could raise stagflation concerns and increase intraday volatility.
Watchlist: SPY, IWM, UVXY
Spot: SPYB IWMON
Futures: SPY IWM UVXY
