A money laundering accomplice has returned £5.6 million to the UK government. Hok Seng Ling, 48, was ordered by the court to hand over the funds after admitting to involvement in the largest money laundering case in UK history. Ling served as the "butler" for Qian Zhimin, who orchestrated a Ponzi scheme that defrauded over 128,000 Chinese investors between 2014 and 2017, converting the proceeds into Bitcoin to flee to the UK. Ling resided in Matlock, Derbyshire, where he assisted Qian in laundering the illicit gains and helped him evade police scrutiny. After pleading guilty to money laundering last November, Ling was sentenced to 4 years and 11 months in prison, and the judge ordered him to surrender £5,603,305, primarily derived from cryptocurrency seized at the time of his arrest. The entire amount has been recovered, along with an additional £1,990 in interest.
