1)July CPI Matches Expectations and Softens Slightly; Odds of September Hold Rise to 60%

Data released on Aug. 12 showed July headline CPI rising 3.4% year-over-year, in line with consensus and below the prior 3.5%, while core CPI rose 2.5%. The print reinforced the view that no immediate rate hike is needed. CME FedWatch now assigns roughly a 60% probability to the Fed holding rates steady in September. Risk appetite improved, with the Nasdaq and S&P 500 closing higher.
