Server DRAM Prices Expected to Rise by 13-18% in Q3 2026
The contract prices for server DRAM in Q3 2026 are expected to rise by 13-18% compared to the previous quarter. Due to the increasing demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for AI servers, memory manufacturers are prioritizing production capacity for HBM and server products, which is putting pressure on the supply of general DRAM and NAND flash. TrendForce announced this outlook in its memory price survey released on July 9. Although U.S. cloud service providers (CSPs) have signed long-term contracts, the supply shortage is expected to persist. Price pressure has become evident since Q2, with general DRAM and NAND flash contract prices projected to rise by 58-63% and 70-75%, respectively, in Q2 2026. As demand for AI and data centers increases, DRAM manufacturers are shifting their production capacity towards HBM and server products. Samsung Electronics reported in its Q1 2026 earnings announcement that its memory business achieved record quarterly sales and operating profit due to AI demand and limited supply. SK Hynix and SanDisk have launched the HBF standardization consortium, with HBF presented as a technology that enhances the scalability and power efficiency of AI inference infrastructure. The rise in memory prices is also affecting consumer products, with Apple raising the prices of Macs and iPads due to a shortage of memory chips caused by the expansion of AI data centers.
