CME XRP net short positions held by leveraged funds increased to 115.7 million tokens as open interest surged nearly 40% in one week. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) reported that XRP open interest rose by 2,206 contracts to 7,783 futures-equivalent contracts, representing approximately 110.3 million tokens. This increase occurred during a recovery of XRP, which rebounded about 32% from $1 to around $1.38. Leveraged funds held 892 long contracts and 3,206 shorts, resulting in a net short position of 2,314 contracts. In contrast, dealers increased their net-long position by 1,195 contracts, equivalent to 59.75 million XRP, while asset managers added 565 net contracts, or 28.25 million XRP-equivalent. The differing positions among institutions indicate a lack of uniformity in market sentiment towards XRP. The growing net short exposure of leveraged funds makes them more vulnerable to further advances in XRP's price. If XRP continues to rise while leveraged funds maintain or expand their short positions, the divergence between price momentum and institutional positioning will increase.
