Qualcomm plans to launch a long-term robotics investment initiative in Japan, centered around the newly established Qualcomm Japan Robotics Center. This initiative aims to collaborate with Japanese companies and research institutions to create an open physical AI ecosystem. The plan is designed to promote technological innovation and industrial upgrades in Japan's robotics, physical AI, and industrial automation sectors, responding to the country's policy needs for addressing labor shortages and enhancing industrial competitiveness. The Qualcomm Japan Robotics Center will be responsible for application research and development, industry ecosystem collaboration, talent cultivation, and robotics innovation. Participating organizations include Fanuc, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Toyota, Sony, Panasonic, Fujitsu, NEC, NTT DOCOMO, KDDI, and Preferred Networks. This investment plan covers the complete lifecycle of robotics from technology research and development to commercialization and global expansion, primarily including the establishment of robotics R&D centers, expanding the industry ecosystem, promoting the global commercialization of Japanese robotics companies, and supporting the implementation of physical AI projects. Qualcomm hopes to accelerate innovation for Japanese robotics startups, developers, and research institutions by providing chip platforms, technical support, development resources, and a global network of customers and partners, pushing Japanese robotics solutions onto the global stage.
