The Picturesque Town of Buenos Aires Known for Its Great Gastronomy
Throughout the year, many locals prefer to take country getaways without having to stray too far from Buenos Aires City. Among the best destinations to visit is Uribelarrea, a place whose rural identity, architecture from the late 19th century, and wide culinary offerings attract all kinds of people.
In addition to restaurants and taverns, this corner offers outdoor walks, producer fairs, and landscapes perfect for photography lovers. This makes it an ideal option for enjoying a different weekend with family, friends, or a partner.
Uribelarrea belongs to the Cañuelas party in the Buenos Aires province, and is located 82 kilometers from Buenos Aires City, making it possible to visit in a day or for a weekend getaway. The town was founded in 1889 as an agricultural colony and still retains much of its original design, such as dirt streets, period buildings, and its tranquil atmosphere.
One of the most visited places is the historic center, where Plaza Centenario and Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Luján are located. During this tour, visitors can also appreciate the old buildings of the community and enjoy a much more relaxed pace than that of large cities.
The fame of Uribelarrea has also grown thanks to its gastronomic proposal. Most tourists arrive interested in trying country-style barbecues, artisanal pasta, sausages, regional cheeses, and homemade sweets prepared by local producers.
Among the most well-known establishments are traditional grills, inns, and ranches where one can enjoy hearty lunches in green spaces with rural activities, a formula that has made the town one of the most sought-after gastronomic destinations in the interior of Buenos Aires.
Beyond the food, Uribelarrea offers alternatives for those looking to explore the town peacefully and learn about its history. Some of the most recommended activities include:
- Walking through Plaza Centenario and observing the historic buildings surrounding the public space
- Visiting Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Luján, one of the most representative buildings in the town
- Strolling through the traditional tree tunnel, ideal for walking or biking
- Visiting artisan and regional producer fairs
- Buying cheeses, salamis, preserves, sweets, and other products made in the area
- Enjoying lunch at grills, taverns, or rural ranches with typical dishes
- Spending a day in the countryside with recreational outdoor activities
Another characteristic that distinguishes the town is its serene atmosphere, with quiet streets and green spaces that allow for rest and disconnection from daily hustle. As it tends to receive a significant number of visitors on weekends and holidays, it is best to arrive early to secure a place to eat.
Those traveling by car should take the Riccheri Highway, follow Provincial Route 6 towards Cañuelas, and then take National Route 205, from where there is a marked access to the town. The total journey is 82 kilometers and takes 1 hour and 20 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. There is also the option to make the journey by train. For that, one must take a service from the Roca Line to Cañuelas and then transfer to another branch or a taxi service to Uribelarrea. It is also possible to reach Cañuelas by bus and complete the last kilometers with local transport.
